According to Sam Stein’s Oct. 8 entry on huffingtonpost.com, “Obama, McCain Transition Efforts are Worlds Apart,” McCain is doing nothing to organize a team to prepare for his transition to the White House, should he win the election in November. Obama, on the other hand, “has organized an elaborate well-staffed network to prepare for his possible ascension to the White House.” Stein provides specifics about the steps Obama has taken, and the contrast to McCain’s inaction in this area is frightening in light of how hastily he seems to have plucked Gov. Palin from Alaska for the vice presidency, a job I do not believe she is qualified to do, by temperament, not just based on her questionable experience in a sparsely populated state. (For example, regarding her temperament, what kind of leader doesn’t interrupt her stump speech for a few moments to say something like, “That is completely inappropriate and I will not condone remarks like that” when a crowd member yells “Kill him,” in reference to Barack Obama?) Imagine if McCain makes similar ill-considered choices for the many critical jobs that will need to be filled directly after the election. So, McCain’s lack of preparation for a transition to the White House is a good illustration of how deluded his argument that he’s the one most prepared for the presidency is.
